My name is Rachel Levine and I am a graduate of Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, NY, and will be studying animal science at the University of Connecticut on the pre-vet track. My lifelong passion has been animals, and I aspire to one day become a veterinarian so I can continue to work with animals for years to come. I enjoy volunteering at the Greenburgh Nature Center, where I help care for small exotic animals, such as chinchillas, ferrets, and turtles. I was the President of the HELP Animals Club, a student organization at Scarsdale High School whose primary goal is to spread awareness within the school and local community about animal welfare issues and to support local and national animal rescue organizations through fundraising efforts. I am also currently the principal investigator of a canine cancer immunotherapy research project, in which I seek to determine the safety and efficacy of a xenogeneic DNA vaccine with human tyrosinase in dogs with footpad melanoma, along with help from my mentor, a veterinary oncologist in Katonah, NY.

This website is the main component of my Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award given to a girl scout. The Gold Award indicates my extensive commitment to community service and to helping animals, specifically dogs, in need. In addition to creating an easy-to-understand source regarding the importance of adopting instead of shopping for a dog, I have recently authored a brochure titled How to Adopt: The Informative Visual Guide to Finding Your Best Friend.

If you have a question about dog adoption or would like to get in touch with me, I can be reached at rachel.levine22@icloud.com.

Acknowledgements

I would like to acknowledge Ms. Elizabeth Colleary for her continued support and incredible insight throughout this process, Ms. Jill Taney for her oversight, management efforts, and guidance while navigating the gold award process, and my family for supporting me throughout all of my endeavors.
